The Mystery Behind The Cameroon Print Revealed
You will notice that Nelson Mandela's signature on the Cameroon print is smudged at the first letter ("M"). This has been a mystery since the prints were released and one of the reasons, this print has been talked about so much. Given the launch of the Africa Salutes You collection in North America, we have decided to reveal the story behind this mystery.

A few weeks prior to the signing of prints, one of the project facilitators, was working through the process of having Nelson Mandela sign the prints and there was still some discussions going on as to weather Nelson Mandela would in fact take on this project. That night, the project facilitator (who wishes to remain nameless at this time), had a dream that that he was sitting at a coffee shop with Nelson Mandela and he was signing a piece of paper. Nelson Mandela made a mistake while signing the paper and the facilitator said to him, "Madiba, don't worry let me help you", and he took Nelson Mandela's hand and helped him sign the paper. The next day, the facilitator told his dream to the rest of the project's team.

A few days later, the project facilitator, received a call from Chief Nkosi Mandela to say that his grandfather (Nelson Mandela) would sign the artwork and that they should travel immediately to Johannesburg for the signing. The artist, Athol Moult, and Chieft Nkosi Mandela went to Nelson Mandela's home in Johannesburg and layed out the artwork on the table in the garden. The Cameroon piece was the first piece to be signed. As it so happens, Nelson Mandela inadvertantly made a mistake when he was signing the artwork piece, and the first letter of his signature was smudged. As a result of the dream about the mistake, the project team wanted the artwork to remain authentic and accordingly decided to keep the Cameroon piece as it was signed.

The Cameroon piece has become a talked about "coffee table" story and is a great artwork piece to include in your Africa Salutes You collection.
